USAID reported “40 LUMS Students completed 6-week Internships throughout Pakistan”

Forty students from Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) completed their 6-week internships at various government and civil society organizations throughout Pakistan through USAID-funded Assessment and Strengthening Program (ASP). Says a press release issued by USAID Pakistan.

usaidThe press statement further quoted Gregory Gottlieb, USAID Mission Director in Pakistan; saying: “The United States funds a variety of educational programs throughout Pakistan to help it’s youth acquire the skills necessary for building a brighter future for their country,” said

The USAID-funded internship program aimed to introduce LUMS students to the operations of the public sector and civil society organizations and to encourage LUMS students to take up jobs in these organizations after completion of their studies.

The 40 interns were selected out of 1,100 applicants. Each internship was placed according to the student’s future profession. Internships took place at organizations such as NADRA, Higher Education Commission (HEC), Small and Medium Enterprise Development Agency (SMEDA), and Hashoo Foundation.

“Working with professionals in the field on a daily basis taught me the kind of attitude, demeanor, and level of commitment required to make your place in any organization,” says Hira Said, who interned with SMEDA with support of the USAID-funded program. Organizations have also appreciated contributions made by the students during their internships and are already looking forward to the next batch of interns.

HEC Training Specialist, Brig(R) Abdus Sattar Niazi said that the interns made valuable contributions in identifying the gaps and then proposing changes in the existing processes and systems in their respective domains.

The USAID-funded Assessment and Strengthening Program is yet another example of U.S. government commitment to supporting Pakistan’s development priorities.
